Advanced Sketching Course: Medieval Village

While it may appear as though I am doing both the basic and advanced course at the same time, I am merely posting the advanced drawings I have made to showcase my learnings from the beginner course. I completed the basic one first, and then moved on to the advanced course. Sketching a medieval setting was my first task for the advanced course, something I had not tackled just quite yet.

To begin with, the sketching style was inherently different. While previously I was using pencils and smooth shading, the advanced drawing required me to use a micron pen, and make uneven shading that contradicted what I had learned before. This was quite a challenge for me, since using a pen meant everything would be permanent; what I created would stay that way. That did not deter me from outlining with a pencil however, as any good artist should. Rushing in blind with permanent pens is never a good idea. Once I had finished the basic pencil outline, I started slowly trying to make rough lines with the micron pen.

While the start was certainly slightly challenging for me, once I did a few lines, it felt quite natural and started to get easier. Overall, the finished product came out like this;

I am quite happy with the finished design, since the art style is something I really never tried before but suits me. The next one was much harder however.....
