I never enjoyed doing still life drawings, and while I still would not do draw still life given a choice, the means and methods to approaching a still life drawing have certainly enhanced my artistic capabilities.
I think one of the many reasons I never enjoyed doing still life was due to how much organic material I had to draw. Items such as cloth, glass bottles(not organic), but in essence, items which involved shadows and realism were always drawings I struggled with. This was certainly no different; I grappled with highlights on wine bottles and the folds in table cloth. I was able to eventually get it to a passable level of realism, which ended up looking like this:
There are definitely parts of the drawing that need improvement, but for now, I'm happy with the result I produced and want to move on to slightly more vast and distant horizons to draw. Find out what that is in the next post!
