I have already thought about adding player stats which can be upgraded using focus points. Items, however, will also need a certain stats dependant on their own unique attacks, along with a slight rework to the combat system, making it so that rotating during an attack is possible, thereby making locking on to a target easier.
Item Stats:
These will function in a very similar manner to the player stats, which can be upgraded using focus points, despite a few key differences. For item stats, they are going to be upgradeable using moonsilver, the currency of the world, which can be dropped by slain enemies, stolen from civilians, or in a lot of different other ways. The upgrades themselves will be logarithmic, meaning while the first one may cost only 10 silver, the next could cost 100, and a 1000 so on. As for the item stats, a few will remain cosistent for each weapon, such as weight, attack damage, swing speed. However, they may differ according to each weapon's abilities, with some having magic damage as well, or weightlessness.
Rotating during attack:
Adding this will be a very neccessary quality of life change later on in the game. This is because lock on is also going to be a function, which requires that if an enemy is locked on, the player should target that enemy. This will make attacks more consistent and accurate.
