Day 24: Cleaning up my code and failed attempts at falling

Updated: Jul 24, 2023

My plan for the day:

I wanted to organize my code so that I would not have issues with the game in the long run like I did with my previous game. Along with that, I also wanted to animate a falling animation for the character using raycasts.

What I accomplished?

I started off day 24 by deciding I would reorganize my code and transfer some sections of the code into other scripts so it becomes easier to edit later on. In the previous game I was working on, there was individual code for parts of the game that did separate things, and when it came to merging to separate sections, it was extremely difficult. Learning from that mistake is what motivated me to structure my code this time such that I could make this a long term project. Once all the reorganisation was done, I wanted to experiment with falling physics with my character since I could not do that last game. Unfortunately, having no experience on how to animate a character to fall in the right way and realisitically, lots of my code ended up becoming redundant. I spent almost an hour after that reverting everything to its original form, and so while I may not have accomplished the falling effect I desired, it certainly taught me that I shouldn't just completely go in blind into a topic I had no idea about. It was much better to search the basics up online, and then absorb knowledge which I can then apply into my own game.
